Is a great record, but that's an ancillary point.
Music's power is its ability to transport.
Listening to Iron & Wine returns me to a very hot day in 2004 when I heard the opening notes to Our Endless Numbered Days, Lust for Life reminds me of seeing Trainspotting in Boston with an ex-girlfriend, Suffragette City reminds me of my dad.
The Meadowlands by The Wrens is bittersweet. Mostly bitter. I went to see them at The Kitting Factory in New York and proceeded to get embarrassingly drunk. I stumbled home and made another scene at home.
The record opens with the lyrics, "I'm nowhere near what I dreamed I'd be."
Indeed.
Though that could be good news or bad news, depending on your perspective.
I wonder what in 10 years will remind me of tonight. I hope it's the Ting Tings. They make me want to dance.
